Protecting the Proactive Board

Conversations about best practices to prevent serious situations from occurring in community associations are being heard everywhere. Can a board's decision to defer maintenance backfire? When are reserves adequate to meet fiduciary responsibility? When is an association unsafe? This timely session answers the questions board members are asking about engineering and reserve studies; financially sound budgeting practices; security and issues critical to preserving the infrastructure.

Board Member Certification – Here and Now!

Florida Statutes provide that newly elected board members in condominium associations, and more recently in homeowners' associations, have two options to be certified for board service. One option is that the newly elected or appointed director may submit a certificate of satisfactory completion of the education curriculum administered by a division-approved condominium or HOA education provider. A director who fails to complete one of the two options within 90 days of being elected is suspended from service on the board until she or he complies with this requirement. This requirement may also be completed up to one year before being elected to a board seat. This session fulfills the certification requirements for both condominium and homeowners' associations. Certificates of completion will be provided.
