ALERT: New Fair Housing CE Requirement

Attention Michigan Real Estate Professionals
Effective 2/13/2024 all real estate professionals must complete one hour of Fair Housing in each year of the license cycle.

For those renewing within the first year of the effective date of the law, if selected for a Continuing Education Audit, the Department will take into consideration the shortened window for you to comply with the new law.

For those renewing more than 1-year after the effective date of the law (after February 13, 2025), if selected for a Continuing Education Audit, the Department will use its discretion but would expect that at least one hour of this new training is completed for each license cycle year since the law went into effect.

Courses Included In This Bundle

  • Role of Cultural Diversity in Fair Housing – Approval #C132666 in the legal and fair housing categories
  • The Appraisal Process in Real Estate – Approval #C132664 in the electives category

Continuing Education Requirements for Renewal

Within each 3-year cycle, a licensee must complete at least 18 clock hours of CE courses that involve any subjects that are relevant to the management, operation, and practice of real estate or any other subject that contributes to the professional competence of a licensee, and at least 2 of those hours of CE must be completed in each calendar year that involve law, rules, and court cases regarding real estate and one hour of fair housing.

Mandatory Since 2018

As of November 1, 2018, LARA requires review and certification of continuing education courses for real estate brokers and salespersons in Michigan by CE Marketplace in order to count towards licensee renewal requirements. Courses and credit hours that are not certified by CE Marketplace cannot be used towards license renewal requirements. All Michigan real estate licensees may register their user profile on CE Marketplace at no cost to track their continuing education compliance.
