Education Pathways includes the Advanced Florida Building Code, 8th Edition 2023 course in the 20-Hour Florida Interior Design Renewal Bundle because many interior designers work on projects governed by the Florida Building Code, and the code requires a minimum of two of the 20 hours to come from specialized or advanced Building Code coursework.
Most registered Florida interior designers must complete 20 continuing education hours during each two-year renewal cycle, including 14 Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) hours, 2 hours of specialized or advanced Florida Building Code coursework, and 4 additional elective hours.
The current continuing education cycle runs from March 1, 2025, through February 28, 2027, with renewal due February 28 of odd-numbered years. Education completed during that period may be used for the 2027 renewal, subject to the Board’s rules.
No paper notice is mailed. The Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design emails renewal notices 90–120 days before your February 28 expiration date, so make sure DBPR has your current email address on file.
A delinquent renewal costs $100 — the standard $75 renewal fee plus a $25 late fee. If your registration lapses into inactive status, reactivating it requires a $125 fee plus proof of 20 continuing education hours.
Yes. Education Pathways reports your completed continuing education directly to the Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design (DBPR) on your behalf. We still recommend keeping your own certificates as a personal record.
Keep certificates, transcripts, and other supporting continuing education records for at least four years. These documents may be needed if the Board selects your registration for an audit.
Florida’s continuing education rule for interior designers requires at least 2 of the 20 hours to be specialized or advanced Florida Building Code coursework, so this course is part of the standard requirement rather than an optional add-on.
